Action packed mountain bike racing! A weekend format full of learning, socializing, chilling out and racing. The Temghar MTB Challenge is a platform for all levels of riders to come together and develop and show their sport. The event will have the two disciplines of Mountain Bike Racing – Cross Country (Olympic and Circuit) and a Downhill time trial. On top of this, there will be competitive fun challenges of hill climb and obstacle course.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS:
Temghar MTB Challenge is organized by Backpack Outdoors and Rolling Academy –The Bikepark, with support from the mountain biking communities from Pune (Pashan Trailpark) and Mumbai (MMO). Having a long experience in designing trails, getting more people on mountain bikes and conducting races, the organizers have setup an exciting course and weekend experience for the participants. They have been involved in organizing of events like Deccan Cliff-hanger, Pune Bicycle Championship, Rolling MTB Championship, Temple Run, Impulse – Hill Race, Trekkathon and many more. The complete team from Backpack Outdoors is well trained in outdoor adventure management and has been supporting such events since last 10 years! So you are up for an exciting event!

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Race + MTB Workshop + Camping + Socializing + Fun
The purpose of this race/event is to bring mountain biking enthusiasts together, irrespective of their level of riding. The format aims to make participants socialize with the MTB community over the weekend. We are offering 1 night/ 2 night’s stay options too and planning to have loads of fun with Camping, Live Music, MTB Movie screening, etc. Also, the race site is absolutely scenic and the participants can get their family members/friends along for the event. With so much to explore, it will be a new experience for them too! We are looking forward for maximum participation from the cycling community. The winners from last edition will give a fierce fight to retain their podium positions!

TEMGHAR MTB CHALLENGE 2020:
The last edition of the event took place on 12-13th Jan 2019. A total of 48 cyclists participated in various categories. The event had cyclists from Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Nashik and Indore. The event turned out to be a fun experience with the atmosphere of camping, music and socializing. The race was tough and challenging which put the riders to test and they have already started preparing for the next edition.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
11th January 2020, Saturday:
Tracks open for practice between 10 am to 5 pm. MTB
Workshop.
11:00 am: Tracks open for practice,
2:00 pm: MTB Workshop
4:00 pm: Cross country circuit race
5:00 pm: Downhill seeding run followed by Hill climb challenge.
7:30 pm: MTB Movie screening and other fun activities.
(Including stay in tents and food arrangements for members as per their
registrations.)

12th January 2020, Sunday: Races – XCO and DH.
6:00 am: Reporting time, collection of bike numbers, pre-race snack.
6:15 am: Race briefing, getting ready for race and line-up.
6:30 am: Flag off – XCO
(We expect XCO to finish latest by 9:30 am.)
9:00 am: Downhill riders assemble at start point, briefing.
9:15 am: Downhill time trial starts.
(We expect the downhill race to end latest by 12:00 pm.)
12:30 pm: Award ceremony
1:00 pm: Lunch and closure

CATEGORIES:
1. Cross Country Olympic (XCO):
Trail length: 28 to 30 km
Trail type: Gravel, dirt, rock patches with ascents, descents and long flats. The trail is
wide enough to provide for overtaking chances. One part of the track is along the
backwaters which provides for a scenic ride.
Cut off time: 2 Hrs 30 min
Subcategories: (Male and Female)
1. U18
2. Open (18 to 40 years age)
3. Veteran (40+ years age)
(Kindly note that we need at least 10 participants in each male category to conduct
the race. If the participation in any category is lower than 10 participants, the
category will be clubbed with the open category).
(For female categories, we need at least 5 participants in each category. If less than 5
women participants register in any category, they will be clubbed into open
categories. Prizes subjected to participation of minimum 5 female participants)

2. Cross Country Circuit (XCC):
Trail length: 8 to 10 km
Trail type: Gravel, dirt, rock patches with ascends, descends and long flats. The trail is
wide enough to provide for overtaking chances. One part of the track is along the
backwaters which provides for a scenic ride.
Cut off time: 60 min
Subcategories: (Male and Female)
1. U18
2. Open (18 to 40 years age)
3. Veteran (40+ years age)
(Kindly note that we need at least 10 participants in each male category to conduct
the race. If the participation in any category is lower than 10 participants, the
category will be clubbed with the open category).
(For female categories, we need at least 5 participants in each category. If less than 5
women participants register in any category, they will be clubbed into open
categories. Prizes are subjected to participation by minimum 5 female participants.)

3. Downhill (DH):
Trail length: 700 to 750 m
Trail type: Loose gravel, rock patches, jumps, drops and other features. A combination
of steep descends, turns and rock steps. (FULL FACE HELMET COMPULSORY FOR
PRACTICE AND RACE).
Subcategories: (Male and Female)

1. Hard Trail
2. Open (both full suspension and hard trail bikes allowed)

In the 2020 edition, we will have a separate racing line for the amateurs which will
avoid the expert features. This time, the categories are not separated by bike choice
and riders can participate in the race with any type of bike (hard tail or full
suspension).
(Kindly note that we need at least 5 participants in each category to conduct the race.
If the participation in any category is lower than 5 participants, the category may be
cancelled.)

4. Hill Climb Challenge:
A special addition to this season!
Trail length: 300 to 500 m
Trail type: Continuous ascent with steep and gradual sections. Some parts will have
surface of loose mud.
Subcategories:
1. Male
2. Female
(Kindly note that we need at least 10 participants in each male category to conduct the race. If the participation in any category is lower than 10 participants, the category will be clubbed with the open category).
(For female categories, we need at least 5 participants in each category. If less than 5 women participants register in any category, they will be clubbed into open categories. Prizes are subjected to participation by minimum 5 female participants.)

Fun Activities:
We are planning to organize some fun activities for the participants on Saturday.Activities thought for the evening are live music band, campfire, barbecue, MTB movie screening, etc. But the feasibility of this depends on number of participants we get for camping. Hence we encourage more and more bikers to register for the 2 day
package so that it becomes feasible for us to arrange for these. This will be an awesome coming together of the community and we all will have memorable time together.

Cost –  Total cost will be Race fees + Camping charges

Race Fees –

  1. 30 Km Cross Country Olympic Race (XCO)- Rs. 850/- pp
  2. 8 Km Cross Country Circuit (XCC) – Rs.850/- pp
  3. DH Race (700 -750 m) – Rs. 1050/- pp
  4. Hill Climb Challenge (300 – 500 m) – Rs. 500/- pp

Camping Packages –

  1. 1 overnight package – Rs. 1700/- pp (Includes, Saturday – Lunch, High tea, Dinner, Camping. Sunday – Breakfast, Lunch)
  2. 2 overnight package – 2400/- pp (Includes, 1 Overnight package + Friday high tea, dinner, camping and Saturday – Breakfast)
  3. Race day  spectator package – Rs. 500/- pp (Breakfast and lunch on Sunday)

Note –

  1. Participants participating in more than one race can select  1 race package, any additional races can be added from add-ons.
  2.  To avoid 2.5% bank charges on debit/credit cards etc, payments can be made via NEFT or Google pay. Please select Cash/Wire transfer while registration.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. The organizers decision will be final and binding.
2. The official language of communication for the event is English. The organizers are also well verse with Hindi/Marathi. So please feel free to use these too while speaking! But kindly stick to English for written matters.
3. NO E-bikes allowed!
Yes, we had someone asking us last time if they can race with their e-mountain bikes. It is a competition meant only for pure cyclists, who willingly push their bikes with the muscle power!
4. Code of conduct for the race:
a. Any rider/participant found engaging into illicit behaviour or pushing fellow riders during the race will be disqualified. Be kind to everyone. (Nobody likes “that guy”. Don’t be that guy.)
b. In case of bike failure of any kind during the race, the rider is supposed to take the bike off the track and clear the race line and get in touch with nearest volunteer for further instructions.
c. Anyone found changing/damaging the track or any of its features will be immediately disqualified and asked to leave the premises.
d. Only registered racers may compete in an event. You must be registered to race. An official race number plate must be displayed by each racer. No competitor shall cut, fold, mutilate, apply stickers to or alter in any way the number plate. Numbers are not transferable. Penalty is simple, the score table will not be able to score you, when you complain it will lead to disqualification.
e. Any competitor littering the course with gel packets, food wrappers or other waste will be disqualified. Keep our trails beautiful.
f. The use of profanity or flagrant discourtesy directed at another competitor, race worker, or spectator is grounds for disqualification.
g. No cheating, bad sportsmanship, throwing bikes, temper tantrums, uproarious behaviour, or making a scene. We’ll disqualify you on principle.
h. A competitor on their bike has the right-of-way over a competitor pushing their
bike on the race track.
5. All competitors must wear a properly secured helmet at all times during competition as well as when pre-riding or warming up on the course. Competitors are expected to wear proper riding attire, including a shirt, shorts, and fully-enclosed shoes during competition. Competitors are also advised (not mandatory) to use safety gear like knee guards, elbow guards and others.
6. MP3 players, and other personal listening devices are allowed but must not interfere with a racer’s awareness of other racers and their surroundings on the race course.
7. Each competitor is responsible for having their bike in good operating condition.
8. All Competitors must be self-sufficient. All repairs during a race must be performed by the individual racers. Tools and spare parts used in a repair must be carried by the racer. Assistance from another person is not allowed.
9. Deviation from the marked course will result in disqualification unless the competitor re-enters the course at point of exit. If you cut the course, intentionally or not, own up to it, we’ll let you finish the race.
10. Medical facilities of only first aid will be available at the race site.
11. A race may be stopped by the race director in case of severe injury to a rider or life threatening weather.
12. Racers failing to heed the instruction of medical personal and/or course marshals attending to an injured rider will be disqualified!
13. If you think there is an error in your results, bring it to scorer’s attention and the race committee will look into the matter. Race committee’s decision will be final.

Cancellation Policy –

• The request for cancellation and refund if any should be made in the Cancellation Form, duly signed by the participant or by e-mail sent from the registered participants ID.
• Cancellation request will be received during working days and during working hours(Mon-Fri 10 am to 6 pm) It will be processed from the time of receipt of the form or email.
• Refund will be paid by cheque only (not cash) or account transfers within 15 days of event conclusion.
• Backpack outdoors reserves all rights to modify/change any program/event. For any reason of cancellation, cancellation charges will be applicable as follows
• For cancellations made till 15th Dec 70% of the program fees will be refunded.
• For cancellations made till 31st Dec 50% of the program fees will be refunded.
• No refund will be made if cancellation is made after 31st Dec.
• If the event is cancelled due to any natural calamity, political unrest or other such reasons beyond our control the same cancellation policy will apply.
• If the event is cancelled by Backpack Outdoors due to insufficient number of people then full amount will be refunded or adjusted in next event.
